In 1974, the David Posnack Hebrew Day School opened its doors as an elementary school in Plantation, Florida. There were only 14 students enrolled in the elementary program! In 1982, the David Posnack School added a middle school, and then a high school in ’98, with only 18 students in the freshmen class. The first classrooms were small bungalows known as the Gables. Over time, the school saw an increase in enrollments and decided to move on to bigger and better things. That meant more space to meet the demand for parents who wanted their kids to get the best mix of a Jewish and academic education for their kids. Founding families include the Rosenblatt and Feldman family, and more.

The high school began to make use of the classrooms in the Soref Jewish Community Center and occupied mobile classrooms on the JCC’s front lawn. Geri Stief was the high schools first principal. Shortly thereafter, a new upper school building was built and completed in 2002. By 2009, the lower school had moved to one location in Davie. In 2011, the upper school followed in their footsteps and transferred to the Davie campus. Since the school’s opening, the name has changed from ‘Hebrew’ to a ‘Jewish’ day school, in 2011. The reason being that Dr. Cuenca felt that it was more than a Hebrew school being that would be making it an after school thing and it is more of a Jewish experience.

The school has also expanded its curriculum, now offering a k-12 education. Posnack even offers an online school! The David Posnack Jewish Day School has been providing an everlasting Jewish education, as well as a superb academic education for their students since 1974.
