Schools around the U.S are warning their students about a dangerous new drug called Strawberry Quick. Strawberry Quick is an extremely volatile form of crystal meth. After authorities cracked down on Strawberry Quick in 2007, the drug experienced a transformation, so that its manufacturers could remain underground.  It took the form of a powder that dissolves in liquid, much like Nesquik powder.  Currently,  Strawberry Quick resembles the much-loved kids candy Pop-Rocks. Schools are advising their students not to accept Pop-Rocks or any candy from strangers or peers.

Made from crystal meth, Strawberry Quick should be avoided under all circumstances. People who consume this drug experience an exaggerated rush of energy in their system; these feelings can cause the user to overestimate their ability, putting him/herself and others in danger. Once the effect of the drug wears off, it can cause mental breakdowns that can result in loss of appetite, leading to extreme weight loss. As a result of consuming Strawberry Quick, users are more vulnerable to addiction to the drug and related substances.

The Posnack Pulse recently spoke with school counselor, Jennifer Biton, and she had this to say about the drug:

“Synthetic drugs have been on the rise for several years which caused a nation wide opiate epidemic. People alter the drug to get ahead of the legal process, and they make the packaging of the drug more enticing so teenagers will buy it. The main point is that unless you’re a scientist, you won’t really know what the particular substance is. So if you think you know, think again.”

Strawberry Quick and other drugs can ruin lives.  For more information and questions please speak with school counselor, Jennifer Biton in the main office of our school.
